Phil René Oyono is a rural and natural resources sociologist with many years of experience in policy analysis and the social theory in Central Africa. His research is focused on issues related to natural resources governance, conflict management, institutional change, collective actions and other aspects of social forest and environmental management. René has been working with RRI (the Rights Resources initiative) since 2011, and currently he heads, with CODERSIA (Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa) and the University of Illinois, a research programme in Central Africa on the effects of the “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation” programme (REDD) on local democracy.
